What does hosting for x number of domains mean ?

You can host a number of different sites under the same account.
For example:
If your plan comes with hosting for 3 domains that means that in
addition to your main domain you can have 2 sub-accounts.
A sub-account is an account within your main account, more on sub-accounts

Can I have additional domains pointing to the same main page as my main domain ?

Yes, these are called domain pointers. Contact us and we'll be happy to set them up for you.
Plus you get full email capabilities for these domains just like you have for your "main" one.

Can I have additional domains pointing to the subdirectories of my main account ?

Yes, these are sub-accounts which is a great way to host multiple sites under the same web account. ( See What is a sub-account ? )

Can I have sub.mydomain.com pointing to the subdirectory of my main account ?

Yes, you can setup your sub-domains from the http://yourdomain.com/control-panel/

What is a sub-account ?

A sub-account is an account within your main account,
which supports most of the features of the main one, but costs much less.

It has following characteristics :
1. It shares disk space with your main account
2. Administration is done through main account's control panel
3. Every email feature is supported ( just like in main account )
4. Separate statistic reports
5. Supports frontpage extensions
The docs and cgi-bin folders for a sub-account would be
/web1/users/username/sites/subaccount.com/docs &
/web1/users/username/sites/subaccount.com/cgi-bin
respectively.

How do I setup a sub-account ?

From the control-panel ( http://yourdomain.com/control-panel/ )
1. click on the Sub-Accounts link on the left side.
2. click on List Sub-accounts link
3. click "Add New Sub-account" botton
4. Enter domain name and check Frontpage extensions if needed
5. click Create New Sub-account

How do I setup a sub-domain ?

Follow the steps below to create a sub-domain :
Create a folder inside your docs folder named mysubdomain
(ex /web1/users/username/docs/mysubdomain ) that will be home directory for your sub-domain.
Go to control-panel/Sub-domains/List Sub-domains
click on Add New Sub-domain
In the Subdomain textfield enter your subdomain
From the drop down menu choose the folder that you just created (in our case it's /web1/users/username/docs/mysubdomain )
enter admin email
Click on Create New Sub-domain
That's it.

*Note*
www.mysubdomain.mydomain.com won't automatically point to the
same place as your sub-domain, and there is no reason to make
your clients put www prefix to already long domain name.
If you really need to have www.mysubdomain, then create a sub-domain
named www.mysubdomain and point it to the same place as mysubdomain
